Speculation Heating Up of a GOOG Stock Split

May 26, 2005 12:37 PM EDT
We're hearing chatter that a fight is brewing in the Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) boardroom about the decision to split the stock or stay Buffett-like and leave it as is. Speculators think the 'splitters' may eventually win out, as GOOG becomes a 'must-own' stock for retail investors. The view that Google is pro-little guy makes one think that a splitting-stance is more in-line with the companys core beliefs. But then again GOOG has been anything but typical.

While a stock split changes nothing fundamentally we are certain retail accounts and institutional accounts alike will use a split as a catalyst to drive the stock higher. While valuation is clearly lofty at current levels, it would be rough to be short this stock with two potential frenzy-like catalysts coming up a possible S&P 500 addition and a possible stock split.
