Sony (NYSE: SNE) is planning to start selling e-books for Apple (Nasdaq: iOS) devices in Japan.
According to Nikkei, Sony will expand e-book offerings on other devices, gradually moving its own a little further down the road.
Currently, Sony has an e-book store for Apple iOS and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android devices in the U.S. The company first began offering e-books in Japan on its own e-readers back in 2010.
Given that the move hints at Sony seeing a lack of support for its own e-readers in Japan, shares are lower in early trading Wednesday.
