Facebook appears to be coming out with its own photo sharing app to compete with Instagram, Color, and what would appear to be a plain ole photo sharing app on a Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android device.
This will bring immediate convenience for anyone who needs to post photos and then go back later and tag them.
TechCrunch reports besides Instagram and Color, the app appears to integrate Path and With (we're not making up the names of these programs). Both Path and With are projects of former Facebook Platform lead, Dave Morin.
While the app will be built on HTML5 -- making it compatible with Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone -- Facebook is going to want to roll this out to more platforms.
Other features will be to immediately tag others (ala - Places), and read comments, create multi-user albums and more.
In the comments section for TechCrunch, users gave mixed reviews. Some said giant companies are just copying and taking over what smaller competition is doing, while others said assimilation of smaller companies was inevitable. Further, some were excited about bringing such an app to a community with millions of users and events already taking place.
Needless to say, this may help Facebook to retain more users while appealing to many more globally. Timing is great if the app meets cheers and hoorays because Facebook is scheduled for an IPO in early 2012, according to several sources.
