That iPhone 4 you're carrying around is going to be worth less in a few weeks, so you better sell it now.
According to data from NextWorth and BGR, the value of Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone 3G and 3GS (together, the iPhone 3) saw dramatic declines in prices fetched on auction sites like eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) following the announcement and subsequent launch of the iPhone 4 last summer.
Data shows the value of the iPhone 3 dropped between 10 and 15 percent just ahead of the announcement, and fell an additional 10 percent or so to a range of 22 to 27 percent on iPhone 4 launch day. Prices fell until mid-July, when the iPhone 3 was now valued at between 25 and 30 percent less.
Current iPhone 4 prices range from $525 for a used and unlocked 16-GB one to $629 for a used and unlocked 32-GB one.
Apple shares are up 1.7 percent Friday afternoon.
