Samsung is pulling out all the stops into Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) September 12th event.
According to Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), Samsung has trimmed the price on its Galaxy S III smartphone to $99. The price is with a new two-year contract and Amazon said the deal is running "for a limited time only." Normally, the Galaxy S III goes for $199 with a new contract.
Buyers can choose between AT&T (NYSE: T), Verizon (NYSE: VZ), and Sprint (NYSE: S), with the device expected to arrive within two days due to Amazon's two-day shipping offer.
The move comes as Apple is largely expected to unveil a new iPhone on Wednesday, with pre-orders likely to start immediately thereafter. Just a few weeks ago, Apple won a substantial patent case against Samsung and has the potential to ban a plethora of Samsung smartphones from entering the U.S.
Side note: Here's a little color on what to expect at Apple's event. Shares of Apple are flat Tuesday.
