Sony (NYSE: SNE) might not be the only consumer electronics giant looking to option is mobile offerings with the Windows Phone platform.
CNET highlighted market speculation Wednesday that Samsung might be looking to release another smartphone based on Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone platform.
Reports have a user agent profile from Samsung for model numbers SM-W750V on the company's website. Samsung's Windows Mobile Lab is the group behind development of the device and the default browser is set for Internet Explorer 10.0.
Aside from the software, the Samsung smartphone will have LTE support and a 180 X 1920 resolution display. The device is also likely to have a 5-inch display and Bluetooth capability, so, standard stuff for today's tech market.
Samsung's first venture into Windows Phone was with its Ativ line, which wasn't well received. As Microsoft makes market share gains in the segment, with notable gains seen recently in Europe, it only makes sense for larger handset manufacturers to explore the segment once again.
Shares of Microsoft are up 1.7 percent.
