Samsung Bests Apple (AAPL) in Australian Patent Battle

Samsung is said to have won a court battle in Australia which will allow the company to keep selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Some early holiday cheer came Samsung's way Friday when the South Korean electronics maker won a battle with Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) over sales of the device in Australia. Apple and Samsung have been embroiled in patent disputes with each other since at least early 2011, and rulings have been mixed all around, but largely in favor of Apple in most European countries.

The Australia High Court is said to have lifted a ban on sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1, saying it didn't infringe on Apple's patents for the iPad, or otherwise.

The ban on sales of the Galaxy Tab in Australia has been in effect since July.

Apple and Samsung have been through about 30 legal cases, spanning 10 countries, over the last several months.

On Thursday Apple won a patent battle in France against Samsung, making today's victory somewhat bittersweet.
