Reports Sanofi-Aventis (SNY) On The Prowl For Mergers

According to reports from the Financial Times, Sanofi-Aventis (NYSE: SNY) in on the prowl for acquisitions to expand and diversify its operations, in the wake of Pfizer's (NYSE: PFE) $68 billion merger with Wyeth (NYSE: WYE).
Potential takeover targets for Sanofi include long-rumored merger partner Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (NYSE: BMY). In addition, Amgen (Nasdaq: AMGN) and Biogen Idec (Nasdaq: BIIB) could be potential targets. Crucell (Nasdaq: CRXL), the last significant independent vaccine maker, could also be a target for Sanofi.
An analyst at UBS estimates Sanofi-Aventis could raise $22-$26 billion for deals.
