According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) is weighing whether to launch an Internet banking operation.
An online bank will seek deposits that can be used to fund various Goldman businesses. The company already has about $20 billion in deposits, after switching to a bank-holding company.
Goldman is expected to post a Q4 loss of as much as $2 billion, its first quarterly loss since going public in 1999.
