RealD (RLD) Makes Unusual Late-Day Surge into Q3 Miss

February 3, 2011 6:00 PM EST
RealD, Inc. (NYSE: RLD) is lower after-hours today following earnings that saw the company report a Q3 loss of $0.34, which may not compare to the analyst estimate of ($0.09). Additionally, revenue for the quarter came in at $57.8 million versus the consensus estimate of $60.18 million.

But the after-hours price movement isn't the unusual part. The unusual part is that shares ran up about 3.5% in the last 12 minutes of the trading day today to close 5.1% higher. Volume for the last 12 minutes was about 108,200 shares, or about 20% of trailing three-month average volume.

As far as we can see, there were no analyst changes, SEC filings, or other news to drive the stock higher at such a rapid clip.
