Raw Material Prices for Printed Circuit Boards Fall 3-5%
While many companies are currently experiencing rising raw material prices, companies that produce or purchase printed circuit boards (PCB) are actually experiencing falling raw material prices.
Copper foils and fiber glass fabrics are the two key raw materials for producing PCBs, each which have experienced a 3-5 percent average decline in June 2011. The price drop is due to weakening demand and falling global commodity prices.
Due to a large number of reduced orders from its customers, Taiwan-based Co-Tech Copper Foil sales of copper foils fell roughly 30 percent to 750-800 metric tons in May 2011.
As a result of shrinking demand, the company reduced its production rate for May from 1,450 tons to 1,100 tons and plans to sustain that production level for June. Co-Tech Copper Foil noted it would increase production in July if demand increases in June.
Many fiber glass fabric makers have already cut their quotes for June below 5 percent on average, but first-tier vendors such as Nan Ya Plastics and Taiwan Glass Industry have not yet.
