RIM (RIMM) Announces New PlayBook to Uproarious...Silence?
Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM) announced earlier that it debuted a new PlayBook tablet...just in time for no one to care.
Attempting to get a potential jump on Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) heading into the 2012 holiday shopping season, when Microsoft is expected to release its Surface tablet and Apple will unveil another iPhone and possible iPad mini, RIM is equipping the tablet with 4G LTE capability as well as OS 2 software.
No word on pricing, though prior versions of the PlayBook are starting out at $199.99. Checking with Rogers Communications (where the new PlayBook is allegedly offered on August 9th) and you still only see older versions. If you live in the US, Europe, South Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, you'll have to wait "a few months" until the PlayBook is available there.
Shares of RIM are currently on a four-session slide, down 1.4 percent Thursday morning. Support appears to be forming at the $6.75 level...though the same was said at the $10, $9, and $8, and $7 levels.
