Aides to President Bush said he opposes using the $700 billion financial bailout package to help the U.S. automakers. The aide told reporters that it was not Congress's intent to use money from the TARP to bail out the automakers.
Democrats plan to introduce legislation in a lame-duck session next week to amend the bailout plan to allow the use of some of the money for the struggling automakers GM (NYSE: GM), Ford (NYSE: F) and Chrysler.
