Viacom (Nasdaq: VIAB) is flat in early trading amid solid performance at the U.S. box office over the weekend.

Paramount and Skydance Productions' Star Trek Into Darkness topped the weekend with $84.1 million in ticket sales. Analysts were looking for sales of around $100 million in North America, TheHollywoodReporter said today.

The film did about $40 million in overseas sales.

Star Trek Into Darkness outpaced the 209 revamp of the series, which brought in $79.2 million in its opening weekend.

The Great Gatsby took in $42.1 million internationally, topping the list.

Paramount is a unit of Viacom.
