Palm (PALM) May Limit Pre Availability To Boost Demand

Palm Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) may only have 400,000 Pre models available when the touch-screen device goes on sale later this year. Palm is likely considering making this move to enhance the scarcity factor which could bring in more customers.

The Pre will launch with approximately 375,000 units in stock, according to the median estimate of six analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. In only three days after Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) debuted its 3G iPhone it sold 1 million iPhones.

Palm Pre likely needs a sellout to generate the much needed buzz to win customers away from the popular iPhone. Palm is counting on the Pre to return it to profitability and revive its reputation.

Palm's stock has already tripled since I made my BUY call, when the company introduced the Pre at a trade show in Las Vegas.
