Should Macy's (NYSE: M) keep Donald Trump on as spokesperson? According to nearly half-a-million people, no they shouldn't.
Reports out Tuesday have about 400,000 people signing a petition (from SignOn.org) to have Macy's cut loose the Donald from its marketing campaign. Two hot topics were Trump's "sexist" comments about women's looks and "unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior." (a.k.a. - just being a jerk).
Upcoming holiday ads for Macy's will have Trump making light of his "birther" comments about President Obama, notes the NY Daily News.
A spokesperson for Trump said his items -- which include cufflinks and cologne -- are important to Macy's, noting that Trump's neckties are the best selling line Macy's carries.
On Twitter Monday, Trump made another endorsement for the retailer, saying: "Just saw my new line of shirts, ties & suits @Macys -- they are fantastic! Would make great holiday presents!"
We're not going to opine too much on the topic, but will say that Trump still has a lot of cred when it comes to ruffling feathers. Good or bad, people will remember Macy's when they go shop for the holidays.
