Open Letter to RIM's (RIMM) Lazaridis and Balsillie

Dear Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM),

Hello, this is Streetinsider.com. We noticed your shares were hitting lows not seen since the Ford administration, and wanted to point something out. Avon Products (NYSE: AVP) announced the separation of Chairman and CEO roles late Tuesday, and the shares are up 4.3 percent after hours.

The last time your stock rose that much was when M&A rumors began surfacing.

So, Mssrs Lazaridis and Balsillie, consider better-defined roles. We won't look, we promise! Just make it quick and easy. With shares down well over 75 percent since last February, you owe it to yourselves, and to the shareholders.

And 4 percent could add an additional $320 million to market cap!

But things might get a little crazy afterwards, so you should be warned. First, investors might gain confidence, pushing the stock higher. Please note: this will be like cold water hitting your face if you're not ready for it, but it should be pleasant following the initial shock.

Next, your staff and employees will get a spring in their step (you might even think they're crazy!). Be warned, Lazaridis and Balsillie, happy employees might start doing better work, making your jobs easier. You'll have to develop a hobby or spend time with your families with the extra free time you'll be afforded when you're not at work 24 hours per day. (Though, we think you're taking those liberties early anyway.)

Products might even go through another level of checks-and-balances to ensure quality and that they're meeting demand.

Most of all, though, think of those stock options.

Whatever you decide, we'll be with you. As long as you make the right choice.

Happy Holidays!
