Online Sales Trends, Kindle Boost Amazon's (AMZN) Q1 Results

Traders are buying shares of Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) in the post-market trading session following its Q1 earnings report.

The online retailer saw EPS come in at $0.41 during the quarter, a whole dime better than the what the Street had been looking for. As for sales, Amazon.com reported $4.89 billion, also above analyst estimates. The company also issued in-line Q2 sales guidance of $4.3-$4.75 billion.

Looking at a few operational metrics, sales in North America rose 21%, while sales in the International segment jumped 15%. Amazon said sales of its Kindle electronic reader device "exceeded the most optimistic expectations".

After initially trading down, shares of Amazon are now up about 2% from today's closing price. The stock most recently traded at $82.11.
