Oculus VR Competitor Makes Appearance Following Recent Facebook (FB) Deal

Not a few days after Facebook (Nasdaq: FB) announced plans to acquire Oculus VR does a formidable competitor emerge.

Say hello to True Player Gear. The link points to a basic page showing the contraption and some of its specs. They look fairly par-for-the-course from a non-developer perspective.

We're not sure the specifics of the Oculus Rift, but here's the company's FAQ for Developers.

In any case, while other companies might also be looking to gain a foothold in virtual reality, Facebook has an incredible breadth of user knowledge and resources behind it, which would make competition tough. The biggest competitor could be Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), but its Google Glass isn't really competing in the same category. Google is going to enhancement for day-to-day activity, while Facebook might initially be aiming for gamers and progressing from there.

Shares of Facebook are modestly higher in early trading.
