Nokia N1 Tablet Launch in China was Massively Successful (NOK) (GOOG)

While Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is no longer in the smartphone business (for now), the company is planning to dabble in the tablet segment.

Consumers, it seems, are supporters of this sentiment.

According to ZDnet, the first run of Nokia's N1 tablet -- just 20,000 units -- sold out in four minutes and two seconds after going on sale in China on January 8th. Each device sold for 1,599 yuan (about $257).

Nokia announced the results on its Weibo N1 account.

Notably, the N1 runs Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG)(Nasdaq: GOOGL) Android Lollipop operating system. The 7.9-inch tablet is powered by Intel's (Nasdaq: INTC) 2.3-GHz, 64-bit Z3580 Atom processor, has 2-GB of RAM and 32-GB of storage.

Nokia also noted that there were 566,438 customers waiting to purchase an N1.

Shares of Nokia are down 0.4 percent.
