Nokia (NOK) Upstream Orders Expected to Increase 20+% in FY12

With the upcoming launch of the new Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows smartphones, orders from Nokia (NYSE: NOK) for more components are expected to increase....and by a significant margin.

According to data from Digitimes Wednesday, Nokia's upstream orders -- those for things like keypads and metal chassis -- are expected to rise 20 percent during calendar year 2012. For a company like Nokia, that's either an impressive number or an ominous sign about the drag experienced in calendar 2011.

Digitimes cites Taiwan-based suppliers on the increased order expectations. Companies like Silitech reported a 3.1 percent increase in revs for November alone, compared with 6.8 percent increase on the year. Silitech noted orders for aluminum-magnesium alloy chassis from Nokia.

And Nokia shareholders have nothing but anticipation for the expected increase. Following an annual high of $11.75 hit in early February, shares have been more than halved to $5.30 as Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) continue to draw consumers with the iOS and Android mobile operating systems, respectively.
