Nokia (NOK) Lumia Devices Dominate Global WP8 Handset Market

April 8, 2013 3:12 PM EDT
In what may be a surprise to some and not so much to others, Nokia's (NYSE: NOK) Lumia 920 is now the most-used Windows Phone 8 smartphone worldwide.

According to data compiled by AdDuplex, the Lumia 920 occupies 14 percent of WP8 smartphone market, while the Lumia 800 is also around 14 percent. Lumia devices, in fact, are largely dominant, with HTC's 8S taking just a 4 percent market share.

News for the Lumia 920 comes as Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is expected to release its own version of the handset sometime in April. Since launch, the high-end 920 has been solely available on AT&T's (NYSE: T) network only. Of course, the 920 is also available on multiple other carriers outside the U.S.

Nokia is down 0.5 percent Monday.
