There's a new most-popular smartphone running Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone 8 platform and it isn't the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Lumia 920.
AdDuplex reports today that the Nokia Lumia 520 has taken top-spot as most-popular WP8 handset with overall market share of 13.3 percent.
Microsoft and Nokia have mostly observed that awareness in the top-end smartphone market doesn't rest with WP8, so the companies moved to capture more of the emerging market smartphone share, a move which may pay dividends down the line.
That's not to say the upper-crust is forgotten, with Nokia debuting its photo-friendly Lumia 1020 last week. Still, investors will be happy to see that emerging markets are embracing the low-cost Windows Phone, even over Nokia's Asha series.
Nokia is down 0.2 percent Monday night.
