Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and BlackBerry (Nasdaq: BBRY) are lower Friday following new smartphone data from Strategy Analytics (SA) released earlier.
SA said that overall global smartphone growth in Q2 improved from 41.6 percent to 46.7 percent. Leading the charge was Samsung, which saw shipments improve 56 percent to 76 million units. Market share went from 31.1 percent up to 33.1 percent.
Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) was next, with iPhone shipments rising 20 percent to 31.2 million units.
Meanwhile, the "Others" category -- which is located at the bottom of the list -- saw a market share drop from 40.6 percent to 38.2 percent amid shipments improving 38 percent.
While it appears that Samsung and Apple will continue to dominate smartphone sales for a while, will the tides of change bring fortune to Nokia and BlackBerry before they have to close-up shop?
