Nokia's (NOK) New Tablet Won't Likely Run Windows RT (MSFT)

July 9, 2013 11:07 AM EDT
Nokia (NYSE: NOK) shares are higher Tuesday following reports that a tablet PC might, in fact, be in the works.

TheVerge reported today that photos of Nokia's allegedly "cancelled" tablet, which would run on Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows RT. The device was expected to have a 10-inch display, run NVIDIA's (Nasdaq: NVDA) Tegra 3 processor, and have the typical features you might find on a tablet today like HDMI and USB ports, as well as LTE connectivity support.

Nokia is now expected to be working on a slate which would run the full-version of Windows 8. Details of that tablet haven't been speculated.

Given the sales numbers of Microsoft's Surface tablet line, Nokia might be banking on consumers becoming more positive on the operating system following the Windows 8.1 update later this year. The best speculation on a release right now might be fourth-quarter 2013, at the earliest.

Shares of Nokia are up 2.4 percent.
