Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Maps is becoming a bit of a big deal. Last week, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) announced integration of the service into several of its new apps. Today, one of the largest photo-sharing (posting) sites on the Internet is also turning to Nokia.
According to a post on its site, Yahoo!'s (Nasdaq: YHOO) Flickr will be integrating Nokia for its new "Maps for Flickr" segment.
On the Nokia news, Flickr stated: "Whether you're geotagging one of your photos, discovering places, or simply want to see where other people's amazing images were taken – you’ll see up-to-date maps from one of the largest and best mapping providers in the world. Our new maps will provide you a much greater level of detail and let you zoom in much further than before."
Flickr will be working with Open Street Map as well, but the news is big for Nokia. Basically, Flickr eschewed services from Google (Nasdaq: GOOG), Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), and, heck, even Garmin (Nasdaq: GRMN) in favor of its mapping capability.
Nokia is up over 3 percent in early trading, after dropping 3.7 percent Thursday.
