Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) shares are indicated for a higher open Monday amid reports its new iPad -- the "new iPad" -- is sold out.
Despite initial speculation that mimicked the iPhone 4S, Apple said it has sold out of all iPad supplies in countries where it is available. In addition, some shipments have been pushed back three-weeks, although some blogs have reported getting confirmation that their device has already shipped.
According to Computerworld, Australian orders will ship on March 22nd, with European countries like Japan, Germany, Switzerland, France, and the U.K. looking at an additional two or more weeks until devices ship.
U.S. wireless carriers Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) have simply started taking customers' email addresses to alert them when the iPad will be back in stock.
Apple typically keeps supplies tight in order to maintain lower overhead. Last year, the iPad 2 sold out within the first day it was available, causing shipment delays of four to five weeks.
