Looks like Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) products equipped with a next-generation processor won't be available until 2014 at the earliest.
According to Digitimes, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (NYSE: TSM) is taping out Apple's A7 processor on a 20-millimeter process this month, with risk production expected to commence in May or June. That means that A7 shipments won't begin until the first-quarter of 2014, industry sources said.
TSM is expanding its Tainan Science Park facilities at 14-fab with a $16.87 billion investment. The 14-fab will be utilized to manufacture the A7 chip, Digitimes noted.
Shares of Taiwan Semi are indicated for a lower open Thursday, while Apple is positive.
