If the rumors over the weekend are true, somebody at Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) may need to update their resume after the next generation iPhone was leaked to a technology blog.
Photos of the unconfirmed future of the widely popular smartphone first appeared on Engadget, before the device itself apparently landed in the hands of Gizmodo, where it was gutted to reveal just what may power the next-generation iPhone.
The editors of Gizmodo have not disclosed how they came to acquire the device.
Naturally, once the photos leaked many critics believed the device to be a fake, but the autopsy performed by Gizmodo may squash those rumors. According to the bloggers, the device's components were clearly labeled APPLE, and fit into the redesigned body with perfect precision, making it apparent that the phone is authentic.
New features of the potential iPhone include:
The phone was reportedly running the new iPhone OS 4.0 before the company remotely killed the device.

- Front-facing video chat camera
- Camera Flash
- An improved camera on the back that appears to have a much larger lens
- Micro-SIM like the one available with the new iPad
- A display that may in fact be the 960x640 resolution that had been rumored
- Split buttons for volume
- 16 percent larger battery
- 3 grams heavier
- Squared finish, unlike the traditional rounded style of previous models
