Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) shares closed Friday's session very modestly lower amid reports the company will not face regulation in its new key market.
A source has said Netflix will not face regulation in Canada following the Canadian-Radio television and Telecommunications Commission's (CRTC) rejected calls from BCE, Inc., and other cable providers that Netflix carries a competitive advantage.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Bloomberg notes the CRTC will not undertake a formal review of Netflix and other online providers. The report notes CRTC held consultations on whether Netflix and other Internet-based movie providers "should fund Canadian broadcast content and face other regulations that cable and satellite distributors such as Rogers Communications Inc. must meet."
