Netflix (NFLX) Slumps as Amazon (AMZN) Begins Original Content Development

Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) is having one of those days again.
Late Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that Kudelski Group's OpenTV would be filing a lawsuit against the content provider over patent infringement. For more color, click here.
Today, Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN) announced that its Amazon Studios unit would be developing six new original comedy series pilots. Amazon said it was the studios' first pilot production since expanding into original programming development earlier this year. For the pilot lineup in production, click here.
Netflix has been moving to produce more original content itself, with the drama House of Cards set to premiere next February. Netflix's Lilyhammer will also come back for another season.
The cream of the crop for Netflix will surely be Arrested Development, which has garnered a cult following since the show's cancellation back in 2006. The show will debut on Netlix sometime in 2013.
Shares of Netflix are down 0.8 percent Thursday.
