Netflix (NFLX) Outgoing CFO Says 'Don't Be Short'

Comments made by outgoing Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) CFO Barry McCarthy at the Barclays Capital Global Technology Conference is creating quite a buzz on trading desk today.

Responding to a question, McCarthy stated, "in terms of results of the business, they really have been stronger. We've had a phenomenal year. I'm not sure you'd want to be short this quarter. I'm sure everyone knows my long stand.

The comments from McCarthy could be to clear up an questions surrounding his recent sales of the stock before his resignation. McCarthy said the stock sales, "makes it much safer for me to jump off the cliff into something new."

McCarthy also set a positive tone around his resignation, putting to bed any current or future speculation of wrong-doing or accounting issues. "I'm leaving the business in good shape, on solid financial footing, and there is nothing that I know that you don't know that would cause you to be sleepless about your position in the stock," McCarthy said.

The comments from McCarthy helped lift the stock off intra-day lows, although it is still down 1.9 percent.
