Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) is trading lower Wednesday, going against the broader market moves, which may be due in part to the company finally enforcing its policies.
TechCrunch notes today that Netflix has had a long-standing policy of allowing more than one streaming service on multiple devices. According to the site, "Have a one DVD-at-a-time plan? Per the TOS, you were able to have one Netflix video stream going at a time. Two DVDs at a time? Two video streams." TOS refers to the terms-of-service policy Netflix keeps.
The blog notes that the policy was "loosely enforced," with a pop-up message generally the bearer of bad news...a bearer which you could immediately click off.
So, with the new price tiers in effect, if a family of four wants to watch different streams on different devices, they'll have to upgrade to a 4-DVD-at-a-time plan, which is nearly $30 per month.
Netflix is 1.9 percent lower this morning.
