Negative and Positive Chatter on DDDC After Yahoo!'s VoIP Deal

June 15, 2005 11:34 AM EDT
We are hearing some negative and positive chatter on deltathree Inc (NASDAQ: DDDC) after Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) acquired VoIP provider DialPad Communications.

On the negative side: Deltathree currently has a VoIP deal with SBC (NYSE: SBC), but Yahoo!'s relationship with SBC is very close, so some question if the deltathree deal is safe. Our sell-side contacts told us that the companies are different. deltathree feeds into an Internet connection, meaning a user can plug his/her phone into the connection and make calls similar to a land line, while DialPad offers a connection through the users computer.

On the positive side: The deal could kick-start consolidation in the sector and deltathree would likely be on the top of many lists due to its relationship with SBC (NYSE: SBC) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ).
