Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has kept information about the potential tablet device it is working on out of the media so far, but the company has a special media event set for January 26 that has the Internet buzzing that this will be the announcement fans have been waiting for, according to Fox News.

The source cited by Fox confirmed that the media event will be "big," saying that the focus of the event will be in the mobility space, suggesting something in the iPhone or iTouch product line.

Rumors have been flying around that Apple has been asking developers of the applications for the iPhone to adapt them to fit a large screen.

Hardware specifications have been rumored to include a 10.1 touch screen, onscreen virtual keyboard and a webcam for video conferencing.

Former Google China President Kai-fu Lee describes the device as a large iPhone that will combine the best of netbook and e-reader technology into a gorgeous Apple package. Lee also comments on the promising user interface that the device is supposed to support.

The price of the mythical tablet device is rumored to be $1000, and 10 million of the units are being prepared for shipment in the next year according to Lee.

This is all speculation about a device that has not been confirmed to actually exist, but that has not stopped fans of Apple from talking about it and speculating just what it will bring to the mobile entertainment industry.
