Shares of Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) declined on Friday, falling by up to 3.8% before rebounding slightly. The move appears to be tied to reports that a herbicide-resistant wheat variety abandoned over a decade ago was found on an Oregon farm. Investigators are trying to determine how exactly the modified wheat ended up on the farm and how far it has spread. The news no doubt raises serious questions about efforts to control genetically modified crops.
