Microvision (MVIS) Sees Renewed Interest As iPhone Chatter Won't Die

After rising nearly 50 percent on Friday, but only closing up 9 percent, shares of Microvision Inc. (Nasdaq: MVIS) are seeing renewed interest today on the speculation that the company's pico projectors could be in the next Apple iPhone.

On Friday, analysts at Ticonderoga triggered the speculation following comments after meeting in Taipei. The firm stated, "an embedded pico projector allows users to project a slide presentation or video on a wall or other surface area in large size, which makes sense for the iPhone 5 in our view as Apple seeks to expand the features in the next generation iPhone."

Following the huge spike in the stock on the speculation of a deal, analysts at Stifel Nicolaus poured cold water on the idea saying a deal would be " highly unlikely" as they don't see pico projectors in any gadgets before 2012.

If Microvision had to wait until 2012 to get imbedded in Apple iPhone, we don't think too many investors would be disappointed. The windfall from such a deal would be huge. In addition to Apple, the copy-cat smartphones would embedded the projectors in their devices too.

Shares of Microvision are up 8 percent to $1.70 today.
