Microsoft's (MSFT) New Spin On Tablet

September 23, 2009 10:55 AM EDT
This morning Gizmodo uncovered photos of a product that Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is currently in the process of developing. The product's current name is Courier and looks more like a book that is open than a tablet device.

The Courier has two side-by-side screens that are both 7-inches and users can interact with the device via fingers, multitouch and a stylus. The screens are connected by a hinge that holds a single Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone-esque home button.

Gizmodo said until recently it was a side project hidden deep inside Microsoft, but it now appears that this product is at a later stage, where developers are working on the user experience and MSFT is showing the design concepts to outside agencies.

The Courier could potentially compete with the longer rumored Apple tablet, but the Courier is using two screens, where Apple's device is likely to only be one screen.
