Microsoft's (MSFT) Internet Explorer Gets 'Pretty' - Rival

The Internet is a beautiful thing, though Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Internet browser hasn't always been the best vehicle to get there.

But, at least one rival is giving some accolade to the next generation of Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

According to reports out Wednesday, Mozilla's Director of Research Andreas Gal said Microsoft is making a "pretty respectable browser" in Internet Explorer 9 and 10, with technology that is "pretty competitive."

Most of Microsoft's gain comes from the adoption of HTML5 in Internet Explorer 9. More progress on the browser is expected to be made in IE 10 as well.

Gal noted that peers like Microsoft and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) should open up browsers and operating systems in order to embrace the full potential of the Internet.

Comments come from TheNextWeb's Latin American conference in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Shares of Microsoft are down about half-a-point on the session.
