Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is releasing an even costlier Surface Pro tablet just as many expect that the company is about to refresh the product line.
Par for the course, Microsoft's newest Surface Pro will have 256-gigabytes of memory and run $1,199.99. Keyboard is not included.
Given that the Surface Pro is more like a PC than media tablet, this would make sense for power-users or businesses with a lot of software to load up. The new device does come at a time when a) most consumers can't tell the difference between a lower- and higher-quality tablet, and b) tablet prices across the board are largely coming down.
TheVerge said that release of the device might come within a week or so.
Still, for a niche market, this might be just what Microsoft needed to do. Shares are down 0.2 percent Monday.
