Microsoft (MSFT) Windows Phone Expected to See Big Growth in Enterprise

February 27, 2014 11:38 AM EST
While IDC said Wednesday that Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone is slated to become one of the fastest growing mobile operating systems over the next few years, just where will that growth come from.

RedmondMag.com cited IBM (NYSE: IBM) today in saying that most of the growth might come from the IT segment, a.k.a. - enterprise. One executive from IBM told the news source that IBM recently gave its newly acquired MaaS360 Productivity Suite support for Windows Phone.

IBM FIberlink SVP of Customer Platform, Jim Szafranski, told RedmondMag.com, Actual end user momentum is trailing business interest ... IT likes Microsoft and likes Windows. They've made a lot of investment in things like Active Directory and Exchange and as a result they have a lot of interest in seeing Windows Phone used by employees. I don't think anyone is going to be all Windows on mobile, but enterprises do want it and I think they have a strong opportunity when it comes to the enterprise side of purchase decisions.

Shares of Microsoft are up about 0.1 percent Thursday.
