Months after the launch of Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 10 operating system, growth appears to have stagnated somewhat.

According to NetMarketshare, Windows 10 holds about 7.9 percent of the global OS market last month, from 6.6 percent the prior month.

Numbers from StatCounter are slightly better, with Windows 10 at about 9 percent share for October 2015, from 7.6 percent in September.

Windows 7 share slipped from 56.5 percent down to 55.7 percent month-over-month in October, according to NetMarketshare, and StatCounter showed a drop from 51.5 percent to 50.3 percent.

Overall, Windows 10 growth, based on NetMarketshare, slowed by about 0.1 point between August to September and September to October. The comparable drop in Windows 7 wasn't as evident.

Windows 8 also didn't see a marked change in its user base based on data from either firm.

Users will be awaiting the Threshold 2 update this month, which is expected to correct a slew of errors in Windows 10, while also adding some updated features.

Notably, Windows 10 is a free upgrade for most Windows users through the middle of 2016.

Shares of Microsoft are up about 0.6 percent Monday.
