Microsoft (MSFT) Updates on Windows Phone Growth at 2014 WPC

During today's 2014 Worldwide Partner Conference keynote, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) offered commentary on how Windows Phone growth is progressing.
Microsoft chief operating officer Kevin Turner said Windows Phone has about 4 percent of the global smartphone market. The platform also has 91 percent year-over-year growth, the fastest in the segment. There's also eight markets around the world where Windows Phone has double-digit market share and it is the number two operating system in 14 markets, out shipping Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone in 24 markets.
There are 270,000 apps in the Windows Phone store with about 500 being added each day.
Microsoft also reported a 440 percent increase in monthly paid-app revenue since the launch of Windows Phone 8.
Shares of Microsoft are up 0.8 percent.
