Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) may have had a solid Q415 when it comes to tablet shipments.
According to Digitimes, citing sources on the matter, Microsoft shipped 2.5 million Surface tablets in the final three months of 2015, which led to total Surface shipments of 6 million units for the year. That was 50 percent better than consensus expectations calling for shipments of 4 million Surface units.
Sources also suspect that sales of Surface devices could grow 30 percent this year to 8 million units, amid expectations of a tepid market environment.
Microsoft is said to be developing new Surface models, supply chain sources said. Those are expected to debut in the second half of 2016.
Recently, Microsoft noted that revenue from Surface sales rose 29 percent for its fiscal Q216 reporting period, which ended December 31, 2015.
Shares of Microsoft are down 1.3 percent Thursday afternoon.
