Microsoft (MSFT) Seeks Testers of Tablet-Focused Office for Android

July 2, 2014 7:20 AM EDT

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is looking for testers as it aims to bring a robust Office suite onto Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android for tablets.

Microsoft posted a registration site which allows users to pre-register to test out the Android version of Office for tablets. The family of products include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Visio, Access, Publisher and Outlook applications, as well as the Exchange, SharePoint and Project server products and cloud services, according to Microsoft.

The Android version of Office comes on the heels of Office for iPad, which was released earlier this year. The Android version should be released later in 2014, ahead of Microsoft releasing the platform for Windows tablets. That version isn't expected out until sometime in early 2015.

Shares of Microsoft are slightly lower in early trading Wednesday.
