Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is looking to team with partners in Taiwan to further develop the company's connected cars
initiative.
Samuel Shen, COO of Microsoft's Asia-Pacific R&D unit, said the company has developed a prototype of a connected car using the company's Cortana voice recognition technology. The connected car also has a navigation system integrated in the windshield, which allows Cortana to show maps and directions directly in front of the driver.
Shen commented, We have not launched similar products due to the high cost. But we hope to have further discussions with Taiwanese partners to jointly explore future possibilities.
Microsoft is said to have teams with BMW's Taiwan unit and also with maps provider Kingwaytek Technology.
Shares of Microsoft are positive in early trading Wednesday.
