Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is said to be testing a potentially new revenue stream for Windows 10: advertising.
According to market reports, observers running Windows 10 build 10565 noted that third-party apps are appearing more prevalent on the Windows 10 start menu. The "suggested" app appears in between a user's most-used apps and changes throughout the day.
Users may be able to turn off the suggestions by right-clicking on the third-party app and selecting "Turn off all suggestions."
While it might not be a huge revenue driver for Microsoft, the move also gets users to download more apps and, possibly, begin to rely more and more on the platform.
There's no indication that the feature will be included in the next Windows 10 update. Microsoft is probably evaluating feedback before moving to implement the feature.
Shares of Microsoft are slightly higher early Friday.
