Microsoft (MSFT) Plans 'Small' Surface Event for Later in May

Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) is looking to shrink its Surface tablet and will announce the results later this month.

According to an invitation sent out on Monday, Microsoft will be holding a press event on May 20th. The title of the invite reads: Join us for a small gathering. The event will start at 11:00am EDT in New York.

While the Surface tablet has been a lukewarm seller, Microsoft peer Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) found more success with the introduction of the iPad mini. The iPad mini quickly became one of the hottest-selling items in certain Asian markets in late 2012/early 2013. Microsoft might be aiming for similar success, not to mention tapping new corners of established markets.

Shares of Microsoft are down 1 percent Tuesday.
