After a solid first run, Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) may already be prepping the next generation of its Surface tablet line to take the market by storm.
According to Digitimes, Microsoft will reveal the second round of Surface at Build Developer Conference in late June.
However, Microsoft might be taking a little more caution this time around. Sales of the first-generation tablet were about 1.5 million units (1 million Surface RT and 500,000 Surface Pro units), equal to about half of its 3 million to 4 million unit projection.
Microsoft recently announced plans to expand distribution of the Surface line, which may bolster numbers somewhat.
Digitimes noted that the next Surface tablets might also have a smaller form factor, something in the 7- to 9-inch display range, aimed at meeting current market demand. The current tablets sport a display size of 10.6-inches diagonal.
Shares of Microsoft are just about flat on the session.
