Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) shares are up Thursday as at least one large hardware partner is bullish on prospects for its updated Windows 8 operating system.

Digitimes cites vice chairman and president of Global Operations and End User Computing Solutions for Dell (Nasdaq: DELL), Jeff Clarke, in saying that the company is optimistic about prospects in Enterprise for Windows 8.1. He said that Windows' will position itself as a better option over Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) iOS for Enterprise due to its security and management abilities.

Dell plans to release several Windows 8.1-based tablets in the second-half of 2013, though specific details weren't announced. Supply chain sources told Digitimes that Dell will release an 8-inch Windows-based tablet before the end of 2013, mainly targeting the Enterprise market.

Dell might also go bigger with a 10.6-inch tablet, though that idea is still in preliminary stages.

Release of Windows 8.1 is slated for October 18th.

Shares of Microsoft are up 0.7 percent.
